Enniscorthy Choral Society - Rehearsals & Membership

Rehearsals & Preparation for Major Event

Enniscorthy Choral Society meet once a week for rehearsals with additional workshops in vocal training from time to time.

The choir performs at pre-arranged engagements, formal and informal concerts and at various national and international competitions throughout the year.

Generally divided into four-parts (SATB) and sometimes eight-parts (SSAATTBarB) each rehearsal session has pre-assigned homework. Homework is covered and practiced by members using sectional line-CD's and sheet music during the week. The emphasis at rehearsals is to develop the musicality of pieces and to work on arrangements as a whole.

For those new to the choir or those who may be missing sheet music or line recordings, please contact your Section Leader or the Music Librarian.

Soprano Section Leader Bernadette O'Callaghan
Alto Section Leader Mary Nagel
Tenor Section Leader Barry Kinsella
Bass Section Leader Robert Rowe

Why not join us on Monday evenings?

The choir rehearses every Monday night in Coláiste Bride from 8pm sharp during the choral term. Click here or on the compass to see a map showing the location of Coláiste Bride in Enniscorthy town.

We encourage all prospective new members to come along to a rehearsal and, if you think Enniscorthy Choral Society will suit you, arrange a time for an audition with our Music Director, Donagh Wylde.

Membership of Enniscorthy Choral Society

Membership to the choir is open to all ages, denominations and cultures and currently extends beyond the town into the surrounding hinterland. The choral society’s only criterion for admission to the choir is a simple audition.

The audition involves the evaluation of a prospective members voice and singing range. Successful entrants are placed into appropriate choral sections; namely Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass. Full members annual subscriptions fee is currently set at €100.

Members do not have to have any previous experience with choral works and it is not necessary to be able to read music. Sectional line-CD's and sheet music are distributed by the choral society's Music Librarian. All members of the choir are re-auditioned every three years.

The choral society currently boasts 48 members (2007/08).

Associate membership is also available for non-singers at an annual subscription fee of €50.
